About Us
What makes Timothy Spillane, Inc. different from other roofing contractors? Well, it's not that we wear gowns or tuxedos to work as the picture below might suggest (more about that later!). Our unique position among roofing contractors comes from the fact that we have oriented the focus of our business squarely on the most specialized segment of the industry: the installation of "hard" roofing products - slate, clay and concrete tiles - and the copper work which so often compliments "hard" roofing projects. The fact that we don't spend most of our time installing asphalt shingles, cedar shakes or commercial rubber roofing products allows us the luxury of working day-in and day-out on the kind of specialized projects that most roofing companies rarely ever have the opportunity of doing. The fact that we work with these products daily is what distinguishes us from other contractors. Experience is vital when it comes to slate, tile and copper work and our people have plenty of it. Tim Spillane has worked full-time in the construction industry for more than twenty five years. He founded Timothy Spillane, Inc. eighteen years ago and owns and runs the business with his wife, Donna Spillane, who also manages the office. Mr. Spillane began his career in construction after graduating from Colorado College in 1979, working first as a laborer and carpenter’s helper in a family business. After becoming a carpenter himself, Mr. Spillane moved into supervisory and management positions before starting his own business in 1989. His vision of creating a niche for the new business led him to shape the firm into a company specializing exclusively in the hard-roofing, steep-slope products of slate and clay tile. Mr. Spillane oversees all aspects of the business and personally brings the hands-on attention that assures all the company’s installations are well-managed, client-sensitive and quality-driven projects. Fergus Sweeney is a partner in Timothy Spillane, Inc. and has worked with the firm for seventeen years. His responsibilities include expediting all field operations, coordinating the field work with office staff, and managing human resources. Mr. Sweeney is a naturalized U.S. citizen, born and raised in Northern Ireland. His roots and construction experience in that country give Mr. Sweeney a unique perspective and appreciation for the craftsmanship and aesthetics associated with the centuries old European traditions of slate and clay tile roofing.
As for the tuxedo and gowns? Well, nobody wants to work 24/7no matter how dedicated they are to their craft! Here, the Sweeney's (Jackie is seated to the left with Fergus behind her) and the Spillane family (from the right, Tim, Donna, Erin, Caitlin, son-in-law Rob Schlender and Anne Schlender) enjoy a night out together at a fund-raiser to benefit AIDS research. By the way, each of the Spillane daughters has worked part-time up on the roofs - ultimately, we believe that's what kept them going back to school! And we look forward to getting those little Sweeney kids up there, too (once they get old enough!).
Experience. It's what makes Timothy Spillane, Inc. the most qualified installer of slate, tile and copper roofing products in the area. Let us apply our experience to your project.
Our Commitment We are committed to going above and beyond for our customers. We mean it when we say we are committed to providing our customers excellence in craftsmanship, competitive pricing and on-schedule delivery of our roofing services. Quality. Value. Schedule. These are the three most important things when it comes to being a successful roofing company. Our crews are trained to be craftsman, not paid for how much they install. Our products are expensive enough, we don't inflate their fair market value. And while our products are meant to last a lifetime, we won't take a lifetime to finish your project. Meeting your expectations for quality and value on your project is our goal. Sometimes, it means we just have to climb a little bit higher than everybody else to do so.
Our Pride We take a great deal of pride in our work. That means paying attention to all the little details that are so often overlooked when it comes to roofing work. And it means making sure that the big things stand out so that even from a distance their appearance shouts, "Job well done!" That's why our work has been part of projects that have been featured in Architectural Digest, Philadelphia Magazine, the European trade publication, Architectium, and in the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper. Our work on the Cairnwood Mansion, the Beaux Arts style residence designed by Carrere & Hastings in 1892 for the industrialist and founder of Pittsburg Plate Glass, John Pitcairn, was nominated for a Gold Circle Award for “Outstanding Workmanship – Steep Slope” by the National Roofing Contractors Association. Timothy Spillane, Inc. is also proud to be a Charter Member of the National Slate Association. | |
